Dispatch
from Peter Harvey Bristol March 22, 1999
Today would have been the 100th birthday of my father's father, Herman Harvey Bristol. His life spanned most of this century. Like many men who lived through the cold winters of the Great Depression, he was a man of self-reliance and hope. His philosophy was evident in a letter he wrote during 1935:

Even in the worst of times, the man with
enough ideas will find some way to go forward.
Where adversity gave him strength, time and accumulated wisdom returned him to the farm-instilled values of his childhood. I think Bloomingfields Farm is the continuum of my grandfather's values. Every family has its constants, its ideas finding ways to go forward.Happy Birthday Grampy. I know you're out there somewhere, watching things grow.
